Kate’s Picks

This Week

Weekday pick: Toddler Time

Tuesday, October 13 | 10–11 AM | The Ridge Marketplace

An outdoor scavenger hunt, animal track stamping, and learning how forest animals get ready for winter make this a sweet little fall outing for your toddler. A chance to explore, create, and get outside together!

Weekend Double-Dip Pick: Art in the Park + Archaeology Day

Saturday, October 17 | 11 AM–2 PM | Both FREE

Two events, one easy outing! The library and Heart of the Hills Heritage Center are next door and share a lawn, so you can enjoy both without loading everyone back into the car.

  • Art in the Park: Pumpkin painting, hands-on art activities, and interactive booths from local artists, businesses, and school groups at the library.

  • Archaeology Day: Explore Kerr County’s prehistoric past with hands-on activities at Heart of the Hills Heritage Center.

Wander between the two, with plenty of lawn space and the library playground right there for a play break or to burn off some energy.

Want to make a full day of it? If your kids are older or nap time isn’t a concern, tag on the Schreiner football game afterward! The game starts at 2 p.m. at Antler Stadium.

Worth the Drive Weekend Pick: Boerne Barktoberfest

Saturday, October 17 | 10 AM–4 PM | Boerne Main Plaza | FREE Admission

If your kids want to say hi to every dog they see, this one’s for them! Dogs in costumes, dachshund races, a petting zoo, face painting, and crafts, plus food trucks, music, and local vendors. Bring your family pup along, too, on a leash!

Mom tip: Plan around what your crew would love most: the dog costume contest runs 11 AM–noon, Doggy Dash races 12:30–1:30 PM, and dachshund races 1:30–2 PM.

The event supports Hill Country Animal League’s affordable spay/neuter and pet wellness care. Admission is free; some activities and contest entries have fees.

Help Kerr Kids Turn the Page

Kerr Kids’ next project is a literacy room! While they have bigger plans for the future, this is the room they’re working on bringing to life right now, adding another way for local kids to learn and explore.

Want to help? Shopping their wishlist or making a donation is a simple way to support this next step. Every contribution helps move the literacy room closer to reality!

Catch us on Water Street! Kerr Kids is bringing the Kid Zone to the Water Street Festival on October 24, and Kerrville Family Guide will have a booth there too. Bring the kids, come say hi & trick or treat Water Street!

Let’s Keep Kerrville Kickin’ by supporting organizations like Kerr Kids that are creating new spaces, showing up at community events, and dreaming big with a vision of keeping family fun free or affordable.
