At the Heritage Center’s Juneteenth celebration, music floated across the lawn while kids played beneath the trees, families wandered through the museum, and turkey legs cooked on the grill. It wasn’t a chaotic kids’ event. It felt like a true community gathering and a throwback to the ease of the ’90s we all yearn for.

After my own family unexpectedly rediscovered the magic of our front yard, I told Angela the Heritage Center’s beautiful porch felt made for Front Porch Fridays. I suggested a monthly gathering, especially since Kerrville doesn’t have a First Friday tradition. She ran with it, and y’all, SHE IS MAKING IT HAPPEN!

The first one is October 2 from 5–7 PM, with live music, food, activities, and free access to the exhibits.

MAMA’s OF TEENS → Angela is also intentionally creating more for older kids, starting with THIS Saturday’s beginner-friendly needle-felting workshop for ages 12–18. She has ideas brewing, I have ideas brewing, and one of the pillars of KFG is helping connect families with the people ready to create more of what Kerrville’s older kids actually want.

Sept 22 | 10 AM | The Ridge | Free

A free themed morning of a fun, hands-on event that encourages creativity, imaginative play, sensory exploration, and learning.

Sept 26 | 10 - 4 | Museum of Western Art | Free

Bring the family out to enjoy the Journey West Children’s Gallery, western art and artifacts, plus a free scavenger hunt and hands-on activities.

Make the drive to Marble Falls for a full day of fall fun at Sweet Berry Farm, and bring a wagon or sturdy stroller because the farm is spread out! Sweet Berry Farm has plenty of activities to fill your whole day, but if you decide to keep your farm visit shorter, want to mix up the family fun or have the stamina to extend the adventure, head to Putters & Gutters for go-karts, bowling, roller skating, mini golf and an arcade. It’s fun for all ages, but it’s an especially great add-on if you have preteens or teens in the mix. Grab casual food at the on-site grill, try Adriano’s Italian on Main Street for more of a downtown restaurant experience, or stop at the famous Blue Bonnet Cafe for all-day breakfast, comfort food and pie, but be prepared for a crowd!
